The Chinese phone maker, Xiaomi, has launched its first Android tablet in China dubbed MiPad. The tablet comes in two storage variant, 16GB version and 32GB version, both of which are expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD. The 16GB variant is priced at CNY 1,499 (approx $240) and the 64GB variant at CNY 1,699 (approx $272), respectively. The tablet was introduced at an event in Beijing by Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO. While pricing details were provided, Xiaomi didn’t mention availability details.

The MiPad features a 7.9-inch QXGA IPS Retina display with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels topped with 324ppi pixel density and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat paired with MiUI UI out-of-the-box, which is most people first priority when considering buying a smartphone. The Mipad is powered by a 2.2GHz Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC with 192 core Kepler GPU, coupled with 2GB of RAM.

The MiPad is the first tablet to be powered by a ‘4+1’core Tegra K1. Other features include an 8-megapixel rear camera with a BSI sensor and 5-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Micro USB. The Mipad is packed with a 6700mAh Li-ion battery, it will be available in six different colours Black, White, Red, Blue, Green and Yellow.
