Amazon has announced a new edition of its Fire TV that can stream 4K Ultra-HD contents from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Amazon Video. This new edition is more powerful and smarter than its predecessor that was released few years ago.
According to the firm, the Fire TV 2015 edition is five times powerful than Roku and has eight times more processing power than Google Chromecast. It supports HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) that can translate streamed contents from Amazon Video to High Definition 1080p resolution while maintaining low bandwidth to save data usage.

In terms of specifications, the new Fire TV is powered by a quad-core MediaTek (2-core 2.0GHz + 2-core 1.6GHz) processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and PowerVR GX6250 GPU. It has an 8GB of inbuilt storage that is further expandable via MicroSD card. In connectivity compartment, the gadget offers WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band + MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1, HDMI output port, USB 2.0 port, DC Jack, and Ethernet port.
The Amazon Fire TV support AAC-LC, FLAC, MP3, eAC3, Dorbis, PCM/Wave, and Dolby Atmos (EC3_JOC) audio codecs, H.265 and H.264 video codecs, and JPG, PNG, BMP and GIF image codecs. It measures 115 mm x 115 mm x 17.8 mm, and weighs 270 gram.
Alongside with the Fire TV box, Amazon also launched a new game controller with voice search functionality. The gamepad has an output headphone jack port and can be connected with the Fire TV to play games and access various applications, all of which are readily available on Amazon App Store.
The Amazon Fire TV box is available for pre-orders on Amazon Store at US$99.99 and will start shipping from the first week of October globally.
