FG Warns DisCo’s Against Asking Nigerians To Pay For Meters


The Federal Government has cautioned electricity distribution companies (DisCos) against selling meters to Nigerians.

The government said any DisCo that approaches Nigerians to pay for the thing will be punished.

The Special Adviser to the President on Infrastructure, Mr. Ahmed Zakari, said this on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at a partners’ meeting on electricity tariff, coordinated by the FGN/NLC-TUC Ad-hoc Committee.

Zakari stated, “We have made it clear through the controller’s immediate request just as the intercession from the Ministry of Power that these meters are to be given to Nigerians at no expense.

“In any event, for meters that will be paid for through the MAP, there is an order from the controller to the discos that they need to figure out how to repay residents after some time.

“On the off chance that we discover any disco or its agents selling these meters or abusing Nigerians to have the option to get them, we will endorse such disco.”

He said the administration has coordinated that meters should be made accessible to Nigerians for nothing out of pocket.
