Garmin VIRB 360 can record 360-degree video in 5.7K resolution

Garmin has announced a new rugged compact camera that can record 360-degree video in up to 5.7K resolution. The VIRB 360 as called, has dual camera lenses oppositely facing forward that can simultaneously capture a scene and stitch it together to make a 360 video. In addition, it can capture 360-degree audio via four built-in microphones.

Depending on the creator preferred choice, 360 contents can be record in resolution as low as 4K and as high as 5.7K at 30fps. The camera can also capture 15-megapixel still images. Progress and status can be monitor on a small display provided which also shows remaining battery and connectivity that are on.

The VIRB 360 is fully waterproof and it has GPS built-in along with other array of sensors (accelerometer, barometer, compass, gyroscope)—these provides post data overlays with customizable options that can be incorporated with the video. NFC, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity onboard let users directly live-stream contents to Facebook Live or YouTube via accompanied “VIRB Mobile app” when paired with their Android or iOS smartphones.

Garmin rugged 360 camera can accommodates up to 128GB of additional storage capacity via MicroSD slot provided. Battery included is rated to deliver an hour of 4K shooting.

It is priced at $799.99 and will be available sometime in June this year. The firm is taking pre-orders on its official website.
