Intel Thunderbolt 3 Mouth pin

Intel has unveiled its next-generation Thunderbolt cable, the Thunderbolt 3, with reversible USB-C connector. The Thunderbolt 3 offers twice the data transfer rate of its predecessor (Thunderbolt 2) with up to 40Gbps data transfer speed.

It also offers four times the speed of USB 3.1 and can be use to power two 4K monitors with 60Hz frequency at the same time. Moreover, it can output up to 100W of power to charge portable electronic devices such as laptops and convertible tablets.

Other features of Thunderbolt 3 are

  • 10Gb Ethernet connections between computers
  • Compatible with existing DisplayPort cables and devices via DisplayPort 1.2 onboard
  • Compatible with existing USB cables and devices via USB 3.1 onboard
  • Bi-directional, dual-protocol, 4 lanes of PCI Express Gen 3
  • Daisy Chaining (with support of up to six computers)
  • PCI Express audio recording lowest latency

The Thunderbolt 3 will also work on existing Thunderbolt supported devices with previous versions (Thunderbolt 1 and 2) via an adapter that’ll be made available later. It will start shipping with devices around Q4 2015 and Q1 2016.
