The much awaited Xiaomi Redmi 1S successor has finally kicked off, the Redmi 2. The phone was officially announced by the firm on Sunday in China and will goes on sale starting from January 9 at CN¥ 699 (Roughly $115 USD, #22,000 Nigerian Nairas).

The smartphone features a 4.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels touting a pixel density of 312ppi. It offers dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) functionality and runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box topped with the firm MIUI 6 UI.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, clocked at 1.2GHz along with Adreno 306 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It comes with an 8GB built-in storage that is expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card and offers 4G LTE(TDD/FDD), Bluetooth, Wifi, 3G, GPRS/EDGE and GPS as connectivity options.
On the rear, the Redmi 2 packs an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and houses 2-megapixel front camera. It is backed by a 2200mAh Li-ion battery.
The smartphone will be available in five different colours White, Black, Pink, Yellow and Green.
