Samsung and LG to Showcase New Ultra-Thin Laptops at CES 2018

Top technology companies have begin to step forward to reveal what they have in store for the upcoming Consumer Electronic Show (CES), which is just few weeks ahead. Today, two South Korean companies, Samsung and LG, has pulled the curtains off four new products that they will be showcasing at the event.

Samsung earlier today announced revamped editions of its Notebook 9 series laptops, all of which are powered by the latest 8th generation Intel Core I5/i7 (Coffee Lake) processors. The 13-inch and 15-inch Notebook 9 (2018) and Notebook 9 Pen as the device are called, sports elegant ultra-thin metal body that weighs less than one and a half kilogram.

These packs up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 1TB of PCIe SSD, and integrated Intel HD Graphics. The 15-inch version has a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX150. The Notebook 9 (2018) 13-inch and 15-inch features Full HD RealView display with 500 nits maximum brightness for good outdoor use. The display of these device can be rotated up to 360-degree to use in various modes for flexibility of use in any environment. Moreover, they comes with fingerprint sensors that are configured to work with Windows Hello for one-touch secured login.

The Notebook 9 Pen on the other hand, features a touch Corning Gorilla Glass protected display and comes included with Samsung S-Pen that has 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, for writing, sketching and drawing. It also has an IR camera that supports Windows Hello Facial Recognition.

Connectivity included with these device are USB Type-C, 2x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, uSD, DC-in, and HP/Mic.

The Notebook 9 (2018) and Notebook 9 Pen will be available starting this month in Korea and from there will roll out to other select markets. The laptops will also be showcased at CES next year. No details on their pricing.

LG Gram 2018

As for LG, the company is renewing its 2014 Gram laptop portfolio with super-fast 8th generation Intel processors. The 2018 LG Gram laptops will come in 13-inch and 14-inch models with great emphasis laid on their extreme battery life, thanks to 72WHr battery included.

According to LG, the laptops can deliver a full day (24 hours) of use in a single charge. There is also fast charging onboard to quickly fill the battery up in no time. Another features worth mentioning is their ruggedness. The laptops according to LG has passed U.S military MIL-STD 810G durability tests for high temperature and pressure resistance, and resistance to impact.

The Gram features IPS touchscreen, backlit keyboard, high-precision touchpad, fingerprint scanner, and webcam. There is also Thunderbolt 3 USB-C for multiple high connections and other various ports for connectivity.

The laptops will be available in the U.S from January and from there will roll out to other select markets. LG will also be showcasing the device at CES 2018. No details on its pricing.
