Xiaomi has foray into the smartwatch segment with the launch of its first smartwatch dubbed Mi Watch, which was announced at an event that sees to the unveiling of Mi CC9 Pro on Tuesday in China. The device runs Google’s Wear OS, but Xiaomi added its own custom layer on top called “MIUI for Watch”.
The watch looked stylish yet simple – it has a 1.78-inch rectangular AMOLED display with 368 x 448 pixel resolution and 326PPI pixel density, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. There is a premium edition that have the same display properties but that is protected by a Sapphire crystal instead. Xiaomi revealed that over 100 watch faces comes pre-installed and over 40 applications.

The Mi Watch has a round dial button at the right side that can be used to select and navigate within the UI in addition to its touchscreen. Below the dial is a microphone for voice call and voice recording. The microphone will also let users communicate and usher commands to the installed virtual voice assistant for hands-free control.
It has an inbuilt heart rate sensor for heart rate monitoring, and it also have GPS/GLONASS /Beiodu and NFC built in. Furthermore, the Mi Watch can track 10 sport activities and it can track sleep as well. The firm noted that it supports “FIRSTBEAT”, which is an European professional sports algorithm, and 02 Max. It is swim proof too.
The smartwatch is compatible with smartphone running Android OS or iOS, and the pairing can be done via Bluetooth (4.2 LE) or WiFi. Moreover, it supports eSIM and will readily connect to 4G (VoLTE) if activated by the carrier. Let’s dig deeper into the technical aspect, the Mi Watch is powered by a Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset that is coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage (eMMC).
The onboard storage is especially useful if you have music you want to listen to at your leisure time, thanks to the speaker equipped to the left side of the watch. Other sensors present apart from heart rate sensor are Geomagnetic, Accelerometer, Ambient Light, and Barometer. It is powered by a 570mAh battery that can render 36 hours of usage time on 4G.
Xiaomi will be selling the Mi Watch with rubber band in China from 11th November for CN¥ 1299 (US$185). The premium edition with stainless steel band and sapphire crystal screen protection will be sold for CN¥ 1999 (US$285) in mid-December.
