Football is another way of acquiring citizenship of a country, as it means one representing the country of choice.
Many footballers do not represent their country of origin. While some represent the country which they were born in, others do represent the country where they happen to find themselves.

Sterling plays for England despite being of Jamaican descent. He has lived in England and played through the youth teams of the country.

Wijnaldium plays for Netherlands but could have been playing for Suriname.

Ozil plays for German national team, while his country of birth is Turkey.

World cup winner, Paul Pogba could have been playing for his country of descent, but he chose France where he grew and has even won the prestigious World Cup with France.

Nani could have been playing with Cape Verde but rather chose to play for Portugal
