Mikel Arteta’s 11th placed Arsenal take on 15th placed Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium, today by 9pm in a clash that could lift the Gunners to 10th position, one point above Aston Villa, having played four games more.
Mikel Arteta have been able to arrest the slump which his team had been on, since emerging victorious against Chelsea on Boxing Day.
The Gunners have won four of their last five games, scoring 10 goals in those games, with the Gunners only failing to score in their last game which was against Crystal Palace (0 – 0).

Also, Arsenal which found it easy to let in goals, have now strengthened their defence with the Gunners only conceded goal, a late consolation goal conceded to Chelsea on Boxing Day.
Newcastle on the other hand, have gone winless in their last five matches in all competitions, losing five and drawing only one match (0 – 0) against Liverpool.
Newcastle have also been on a rough run of form in front of the opposition goal, with the team scoring only one goal in their past five matches in all competitions.
The odds are in favour of Arsenal, with a straight win being predicted by almost everyone.
More so, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, has never won an away Premier League game against Arsenal (D3 L8), with his sides scoring just three goals in 11 away games against the Gunners.
Also, Arsenal have kept 25 Premier League clean sheets against Newcastle – only Manchester United have kept more against a specific opponent in the competition’s history (27 against both Tottenham and Aston Villa).
Arsenal striker and captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has either scored (3) or assisted (2) in five of his six games against Newcastle in all competitions, finding the net in each of his last three against the Magpies.
But then, Newcastle’s Andy Carroll has scored five Premier League goals against Arsenal – against no side has he scored more in the competition. He was the last player to score a winning goal for Newcastle away against the Gunners (November 2010), and had nine of the Magpies’ 12 shots in their recent FA Cup meeting against them.
But the best bet would be an Arsenal victory at the Emirates today, however the game may be.
