Full Metal-Clad Huawei Mate 8 Officially Announced, Price Starts At $500

Huawei has officially took the wraps off its latest flagship, Mate 8, in an event organized by the company in China. It is one of the most anticipated smartphone in 2015 and now it is here. The device comes in three variants, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage, priced at CN¥ 3199 ($500 USD), CN¥ 3699 ($579 USD) and CN¥ 4399 ($688 USD) respectively. An exclusive China Unicom version with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage is priced at CN¥ 2999 ($469 USD). The Huawei Mate 8 will be available for order starting today November 26 and will go on sale in December 6. Pricing and availability for international markets will be announce at CES 2016 which should be around mid-January and first week of February 2016.

In physical appearance, the Huawei Mate 8 sports an aerospace-grade aluminium body that measures 157.1× 80.6 × 7.9mm and weight 185 grams. It features a 6-inch curved 2.5D display flaunting a full-HD pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080. Diving in, it is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Kirin 950 (2.3GHz quad-core Cortex A72 + 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A53) processor coupled with Mali T880 GPU.

Notably, the Huawei Mate 8 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box topped with Emotion UI 4.0, which makes it the fourth smartphone running Marshmallow outta box besides Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and HTC One A9. Also, it has hybrid dual SIM slots that enables second SIM slot to be use as MicroSD card slot. Moving on to the back, the device packs a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and Sony IMX298 sensor, accompanied with dual-tone LED flash, while a round fingerprint sensor is placed below it for smart security and authentication. It houses an 8-megapixel camera at the front for taking selfie.

Connectivity options provided includes Wifi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, 4G LTE Cat.6, 3G, NFC, and GPS. It is backed by a huge 4,000mAh battery. The Huawei Mate 8 comes in four different colors Moonlight Silver, Space Grey, Mocha Brown and Champagne Gold.
