Manchester City win over Manchester United to set up final with Mourinho’s Tottenham

Manchester City faced up  against Machester United with the knowledge that whoever emerged victorious had to face Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side in the Carabao Cup final.

The Manchester derby which had both sides coming in unfamiliar positions as regards the league standings. With Manchester City below Manchester United for the first time in a very long while would be a keenly contested clash.

Manchester United had come into this game hungry for their first ever trophy under the former Manchester United player, Ole Solksjaer. But this was not to be their night.

Though United had been in fine form with Ole Solksjaer steadying the rocky ship with a couple of wins, while City themselves come into this with a great win over Chelsea despite having a depleted side.

A dour first half that would see Pep Guardiola’s men have more of the ball possession by a huge margin, will end goalless. With both sides threatening to score. John Stones would even score an own goal, but was lucky that Rashford was offside.

Ilkay Gundogan would also score only to have it correctly ruled off for offside. Zack Steffen starting this game after his premier league debut against Chelsea on Sunday would put in some wonderful saves, especially a one-handed save to keep our Fernandes shot on goal.

Five minutes into the second half, John Stones would put City in the lead. The both sides would continue to threaten with no goals coming from either side.

Marcus Rashford being criminally offside on a couple of occasions, until Fernandinho would grant City the comfort of an easy ending in the 83rd minute to ensure City would progress to the finals for the 5th consecutive season.
