Samsung today has officially sent out invites for the launching of its next generation Galaxy S series smartphone. The event tagged “Unpacked” is scheduled to take place in Barcelona on February 25th, few days before MWC 2018 kickoff. The event will see to the birth of Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in addition to other unrevealed announcements.
As far as the Galaxy S9’s are concerned, the specs are still thin on ground, but if the rumours are true, these will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 octa-core chipset or Samsung owned Exynos 9 series (9810) chipset, depending on regions. The phones are expected to runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box, which can be guaranteed ofcourse. In photography, Dual-Pixel 12MP rear camera with large f/1.5 aperture are bound to appear on the Galaxy S9+ back, while the S9 may feature a single rear camera with a higher megapixel. As usual, the device will be waterproof and dustproof certified. The fingerprint sensor is bound to be on the back, however, it will be a real shocker and sale-driver if Samsung opt-in for the new in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Galaxy S8’s major success is due to the apocalyptic booming failure of the Galaxy Note7, but will the Galaxy S9’s stand a chance in this highly-competitive market where HMD Global is roaring like a lion and Apple is bowing low to take the mid-end market like a storm? Will Samsung be able to snatch its Number One title from Xiaomi in India with these upcoming flagships? So much question awaiting to be answered.
