Philips has launched Sapphire S616 and Sapphire Life V787, its latest mid-budget smartphones in China. The first is priced at approximately $222 USD and will be available later this month. Pricing and availability of Sapphire Life V787 is not revealed.
The company is touting a new technology applied on display of both device called “SoftBlue”, that reduces the emission of blue light ray which are consider harmful to human eye by up 86 percent. In terms of specifications, the Sapphire S616 features a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It offers dual SIM functionality and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box.

Under the hood, the smartphone is driven by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor with a clock speed of 1.3GHz, slammed with 2GB of RAM and Mali-T720. It includes a 16GB of internal storage, which is further expandable via MicroSD card (up to 128GB). A 13-megapixel autofocus camera with f/2.0 aperture is equipped at the rear, accompanied with LED flash, while it bears a secondary 5-megapixel wide-angle lens camera at the front for selfie.
On the connectivity front, the Sapphire S616 support Bluetooth 4.0, Wifi with Hotspot, 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, GPRS/EDGE, GPS and Micro-USB. It is backed by a 3000mAh battery.
The Philips Sapphire Life V787 features a smaller 5-inch IPS display but packs same resolution as the first. It is also powered by a 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM, Mali-T720 GPU, and 16GB of built-in storage (expandable via MicroSD card).
The device runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box and has two SIM slots with support of 4G LTE. A 13-megapixel camera with Phase Detection Auto Focus and LED flash sits at the back, while it harbours a 5-megapixel camera at the front. Connectivity options remains the same with Sapphire S616, it is fuelled by a huge 5000mAh battery.
