Samsung Launches Galaxy S6 And Galaxy S6 Edge: Reviews And Specifications

Samsung has finally pulled the wrap off its next flagship that has got the world in uproar since last week, we are talking about the Galaxy S6 ofcourse. The smartphone was unveiled at the ongoing CES event along with Galaxy S6 Edge which we will review in our next post. There are lots to write about the new Galaxy S5 successor, but the first thing that got our attention and which we believe will got yours is its look. Infact the Galaxy S6 doesn’t follows previous “S” series line in design, many things has changed, the phone looks stunning and premium, the premium seems to radiate from its body.

What’s new? The Galaxy S6 body is cover with glass panel which makes it the first to feature such in “Galaxy S” series. The glass that encompasses the front and back layer is made of scratch-proof Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The device is 6.8mm thick and weigh just 138 grams, making it slimmer and lighter than its predecessor.

What you will notice at first touch is the home button which have been re-designed and is now sporting a fingerprint sensor underneath. Samsung aims to use this to compete with Apple TouchID, that’s no more secret. Sitting on the front is a 5.1-inch Quad-HD (1440×2560 pixels) Super AMOLED display with 577ppi pixel density.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 runs Google latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out-of-the-box topped with the firm revamped TouchWiz UX. Under the hood, the smartphone is driven by a 14nm 64-bit Eynos 7420 (quad-core 1.5GHz + quad-core 2.1GHz) chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM. It comes in three storage variants, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, all of which lacks external storage support. The firm however is compensating this with 115GB free cloud storage for 2yrs with every purchase.

On the camera fronts, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and LED flash, capable of recording 4K video, while it houses a 5-megapixel selfie enabled front camera with full-HD (1080p) video recording capability. Connectivity options includes 4G LTE Cat.6, Bluetooth 4.1, Wifi with Hotspot, NFC, 3G, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, IR Remote, and USB 2.0. It is powered by a 2550mAh non-removable battery with fast charging technology, the firm claims that the phone can provide up to 4 hours of use with 10 minutes charge.

Other features includes Samsung Knox and Wireless Charging, with supports of WPC and PMA standards. The fast charging however is not integrated with wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge features almost identical specifications with Galaxy S6, including display, processor, RAM and storage, the only difference between Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is that the later sports dual-edge display located at both sides of the screen. Among the announcements made is the Samsung Pay which will be Apple tight rival, Samsung claims that the payment works with both Near Field Communication (NFC) and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MTS), making it more compatible with other payments options and flexible to use. Samsung Pay will arrive to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge before July.

The Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 pricing are yet to be announce but we believe its only a matter time before everything get spill out. We’ll keep you informed.
