Sony has launched a new budget smartphone under its Xperis series in Japan, the Xperia J1 Compact (D5788). The phone comes in SIM-free version that allows users to use network of their choice. It will be on sale starting from April 20 at JPY 59,184 (Roughly $486 USD) while pre-orders opening will begin on March 27. Availability outside Japan is not yet known.
The Xperia J1 Compact is waterproof and dustproof which earns it IPX5/IPX8 ratings. It features a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor with a clock speed of 2.2GHz topped with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

It comes with a 16GB of built-in storage that is expandable via MicroSD card and offers Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, 3G, GPRS/EDGE, GPS/A-GPS, and NFC as connectivity options. At the rear, the Xperia J1 Compact packs a 20.7-megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor, autofocus and LED flash while there is also a 2.2-megapixel camera at the front. It is backed by a 2300mAh battery.
