He was born on May 19, 1997, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He attended Comprehensive High School, Port Harcourt for his secondary education before moving to the University of Port Harcourt for his tertiary education. His grandfather was until his death, a percussionist for the legendary Highlife singer, Celestine Ukwu. His father was also a drummer.

He started off as a producer and songwriter in Port Harcourt but later decided to take up singing since he didn’t get enough accolades for the songs he wrote for others. Omah Lay released ‘Do Not Disturb’ and ‘Hello Brother’ which got him a record deal with a new record label ‘KeyQaad in Jube 2019’. The record deal made him move from Port Harcourt to Lagos for the first time.
Omah Lay dropped his debut EP on May 22, 2020, which includes two of his hit single ‘You’ and ‘Bad Influence’. The EP became an instant success.
In June 2020, Omah Lay was featured as Apple Music’s New Music Artist of the month. He also got recognized in the March episode of Native Mag’s Fresh Meat as one of the Best New Artists for March 2020.
