Huawei at its Tuesday event announced the Honor Band 5, an upgrade of the Honor Band 4 that was released last year. The device comes with the same 0.95-inch AMOLED 2.5D curved touch-sensitive display found on its predecessor. The display provides visual data about ongoing activities on users wrist and also let users keep track of the time. Located below it is a home button.
The Honor Band 5 can track sleep better, thanks to the upgraded Huawei’s proprietary TruSleep 3.5 technology, which uses cardiopulmonary coupled dynamics spectrum (CPC) to monitor complete sleep structure, including deep sleep (REM). The TruSleep 3.5 also offers personalized recommendations based on an user sleep pattern.

Furthermore, the wristworn can track steps, walk, calories burn and other outdoor exercise like most wearable out there, but it lacked a GPS, which is not much of a loss considering its price. It also has an inbuilt PPG heart rate sensor that uses the firm’s TruSeen technology for continuous heart rate monitoring when idle and during exercise. Unlike the Band 4, the Honor Band 5 now has a new SpO2 sensor to monitor the level of oxygen in the blood.
The wearable can be paired with smartphones running Android 4.4+ or iOS 9.0+ via Bluetooth (uses Bluetooth 4.2) to receive notification alerts of incoming calls, text messages, emails, and calendar, with supports for social network alerts from supported channels, such as Facebook and Twitter.
When there is an incoming call the band will show the caller ID on its display. It has the ability to mute call as well. The Honor Band 5 is waterproof up to 50 meters, making it suitable for swimming with “swimming mode” readily available on the dashboard. It is dust resistant as well. There is NFC onboard for mobile payment.
The device measures 43 × 17.2 × 11.5 mm; weighs 22.7 grams, and is powered by a 100mAh battery that can deliver 20 days of standby time or 14 days of normal use in a single charge.
The Honor Band 5 is priced at CN¥ 189 (US$27), while the NFC version costs CN¥ 219 (US$31). It is available for order on popular Chinese eShop such Vmall, Tmall and Suning, and will go on sale on July 29th. Color options provided are Midnight Blue, Meteorite Black, and Pink.
