HP Chromebook 11 G5 Announced: offers up to 12hrs 30mins of battery life

The Chromebook 11 G5 today was made official by HP. The device is primarily aimed at students and teachers in educational sector and is claimed by the firm as the first Chrome laptop to offer a touchscreen display. While its full technical specifications are still under-wraps, HP do share some of its important areas.

The laptop comes in two display options, 11.6-inch Anti-Glare display and 11.6-inch IPS capacitive touch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, both having HD (1366×768) resolution. It is powered by a dual-core Intel Celeron N3060 processor with a base speed of 1.6GHz, that can turbo boost up to 2.48GHz. It comes in two RAM options, 2GB and 4GB, and two storage options, 16GB and 32GB, are being offered as well.

What makes the Chromebook 11 G5 explicitly different from other Chrome laptops launched by HP in the past is its minimalist design, light-weight body, and great battery life. With the touchscreen variant weighing just 1.14kg and non-touchscreen variant 1.18kg, both can deliver roughly 12 hours of use in a single charge. The touchscreen version can last up to 11 hours and the standard version up to 12 hours 30 minutes.

Connectivity options included are USB 3.1 port, HDMI port, headphone jack, and MicroSD card reader. Bluetooth and WiFi should be onboard, but they are not mentioned. HP TrueVision HD webcam is included as well.

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 starts at $189 USD. It will be available online from July, and select retail stores from October.
