America’s Oldest Woman With 200 Grandchildren Celebrates 116th Birthday

The oldest person still alive in America, Hester Ford has celebrated her 116th birthday in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States.

Ford rang in another year older from her home in the Queen City, and despite the coronavirus pandemic, her grandkids made sure she had the celebration she deserves.

Hester was born on August 15, 1904, in Lancaster, South Carolina and that was when Theodore Roosevelt was elected for his second term in office as President of the United States. She also worked very hard on a farm where she both planted and picked cotton and additionally cut wood.

She was married and she and her husband bore had 12 children; eight girls and four boys.

In 1953, she moved to Charlotte still in the United States and she worked in Charlotte as a nanny for two families for more than 20 years.

In total, Ford has 12 children, 48 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, and about 120 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Hill and Clayton Harris, two of Ford’s grandkids, planned a giant drive-thru celebration for their granny this weekend.

Hester Ford hasn’t moved from the same house for over 58 years. Saturday afternoon, family and friends drove by that home, honking and waving.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has forced Ford to stay inside her home and miss church, which had always been her favorite place to go.

Hester’s granddaughter, Hill said that her grandmother has been shown so much love from every single person both family and church members.

“The love that has been shown to her is just mind-blowing,” Harris said. “Yes, you know, we thank God for that. Just being able to embrace that love.”

Hester’s grandchildren said their grandma really understands what’s going on around the world right now regarding the coronavirus. In fact, this not new to her. Ford was alive during the 1918 Flu pandemic.
