The Korean tech giant, Samsung, today has launched a new budget smartphone, but not in its homeland this time around. The device named Galaxy Active Neo is announced by the firm in Japan and will be exclusively available on NTT Docomo starting from next month (November) at a price of JP¥ 20,000 ($166 USD). However, global availability is not mentioned.
Much like other Samsung “Active” devices, the new Galaxy Active Neo is waterproof and dustproof with IP68 rating. It is also certified with MIL-STD-810G military grade standard, meaning it can survive in extreme shock, solar radiation, vibration, humidity, temperature and thermal shock. Its rigid rugged build can withstand up to 1.5m drop as well.

In normal specs, the Galaxy Active Neo features a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 480×800 pixels, protected by Gorilla Glass 4. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with a clock speed of 1.2GHz, slammed with 2GB of RAM. There is a 16GB of built-in storage onboard which is expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD card.
The smartphone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box and offer single SIM functionality. An 8-megapixel autofocus camera is equipped at the rear, accompanied with LED flash, while a 2-megapixel camera sits at the front. Connectivity options included are Bluetooth 4.1, Wifi, 4G LTE, 3G, 2G, GPS, NFC, and Micro-USB. A 2,200mAh battery turns it on.
The Samsung Galaxy Active Neo comes in White and Black colors.
