Harry Kane remains the only out-and-out centre-forward in Tottenham’s squad, with Jose Mourinho well aware of how they might struggle without him.
Son Heung-Min has been able to fill in up front on occasion, while Lucas Moura is another stop-gap option. But Tottenham are now looking for a more natural centre-forward to provide competition for Kane.

According to a report earlier this week three options are on their radar. Spurs’ shortlist comprises of Patson Daka, Habib Diallo and Arkadiusz Milik.
However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Spurs have a more ambitious target in mind.
As per the respected Italian transfer guru, Spurs have lodged an loan to buy bid for the talismanic frontman. Under their proposal, Spurs asked to loan the Italy striker for the season with an option to buy for €50m (£46.2m) next summer.
However, as per Di Marzio, the Serie A club has rejected Tottenham’s gambit. Hope, nonetheless, does remain. He states Torino could yet decide to cash in and have told Tottenham they will only consider straight sales for Belotti.
Belotti can be compared to Kane in that he is very much the heartbeat of the Torino side. He scored 22 times in 44 appearances last season – an excellent record in Serie A.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham come back in with an improved offer for the striker.
Mourinho is no stranger to Belotti’s talents, having also tracked him while Manchester United boss.
The report adds that it was the price tags of Ollie Watkins and Callum Wilson that put Spurs off pursuing deals for those two targets.
Tottenham had been considering moves for both players, but Watkins went from Brentford to Aston Villa and Wilson from Bournemouth to Newcastle instead.
As per the report, Tottenham were concerned about Wilson’s injury record in recent years. Therefore, they didn’t feel like £20m was a fair price.
As for Watkins, they never turned their interest into a bid. That’s after they decided the £28m asking price was too much for a player with no Premier League experience.
