The NFL transfer deadline is coming to a close, which only means one thing. Here’s some of the most recent NFL gossip and its meaning for the upcoming season.

As new seasons begin, there are lots of rumors flying around social media and the newspapers regarding transfers, team talks, and pretty much everything surrounding your favorite teams. With it being more of a gamble to place bets at the start of a new season, strange prop bets are being seen more often, with specific predictions being made such as shortest touchdown, who wins the coin toss, and even who is going to receive a Gatorade bath. The world of sports betting is peculiar, but these bets can make you a pretty penny because the odds are so high. But less on gambling and more on what is going on in the National Football League.

Odell Beckham Jr. was the subject of negotiations between the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns, but the two sides could not reach an agreement before Tuesday’s trading deadline.

Beckham, who turned 29 on Friday, has caught 17 passes for 232 yards in six games for the Browns. This is his third season with Cleveland after five with the New York Giants. Beckham’s tenure at the Browns has been plagued by several issues, mostly this season. He caught a single pass for six yards on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The effects of injuries have been devastating. During a media availability in mid-October, Beckham revealed that he has been dealing with a torn labrum in his left shoulder for the past ten years. In all but one week of this season, his name appeared on the Browns’ injury report. Beckham suffered an ACL tear during the Cowboys’ game in October 2020. After the injury, he missed two games.

On his injury report for Week 4, he listed a shoulder injury. In Beckham’s three seasons with the Giants, he has been selected for the Pro Bowl. These 16 games saw him catch 107 passes, gain 1,534 yards, and score 13 touchdowns.

Philip Rivers open to Saints move

In response to the New Orleans Saints’ inquiry about adding him to their roster, retired NFL quarterback Philip Rivers said he would be open to hearing from them. Winston’s torn ACL against the Buccaneers over the weekend opened up a vacancy under center for the Saints. Although the team has not contacted Rivers, it would make sense if they did.

Hill started at quarterback last year when Drew Brees went down with a rib injury and led the team to a 3-1 record. He threw for 8,34 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 209 yards and four more.

Rivers will be a significant addition to the squad if he joins. As a member of the Indianapolis Colts last season, the 39-year-old completed 4169 passes for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He was a starting quarterback in the NFL for 15 seasons, with a quarterback rating of 97.0.

A year after retiring, he still believes he could have played again if he wanted to remain with the Colts as a starter. However, Rivers showed that he can still be productive in the Payton offensive scheme where Brees thrived. New Orleans, which started the season 5-2, must explore all possibilities to remain competitive.

Raiders release Henry Ruggs

The Las Vegas Raiders released wide receiver Henry Ruggs III from his position on Monday following his arrest for driving under the influence. Two Las Vegas police officers responded to an accident involving the wide receiver, at which point they charged him. On Tuesday morning, a Chevrolet collided with a Toyota, setting fire to it with a 23-year-old woman inside. Ruggs, the driver of the Chevrolet, was identified as the individual responsible. A coroner confirmed the women’s death onsite.

Police in Las Vegas released a statement saying, “Our prayers are with the victim’s family.”. Information is being gathered, and further comments will not be made at this time. Henry Ruggs III was involved in an accident in Las Vegas this morning. We are aware of the incident.”

He faces up to 20 years in prison if charged with felony DUI and between one to six years in prison if charged with reckless driving. In addition, his partner, Kiara Kilgo-Washington, sustained severe injuries.

Because Ruggs was released from the hospital, his court date is Wednesday. The report mentioned that despite Kilgo-Washington’s injuries, she did not appear to be in danger of death. Ruggs played 20 games for the Raiders during the past two seasons after being selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.

Jaylon Smith released by Packers

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jaylon Smith has been released. Smith joined the Green Bay Packers after being released by the Dallas Cowboys. During his two games with the team, he was able to log a total of 27 defensive snaps. With him as a healthy scratch, Green Bay won 24-21 over the Arizona Cardinals.

It has been less than two full seasons since Smith made the Pro Bowl. He abruptly left Dallas at the end of last season, indicating the decline of his stock. The fact that the Seahawks selected Micah Parsons in the 2021 NFL draft signaled his demise.

While the pick for the second round in 2016 was optimistic about a change of scenery, he still had some fears. Furthermore, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers were responsible for $770,000 for the rest of the season to sign him. Additionally, Smith will have to answer more questions about his future this season as he’s about to join his third team in this period.

After Smith suffered a knee injury in his final game with Notre Dame, he missed the entire 2016 season. However, despite the injury, he did not miss a game from 2017 to 2020, indicating that his durability was not in doubt.

Despite his age, the 6’2″ 245-pound defender should be given one more chance to resurrect his career. He’ll have more time to adjust to a new environment if he waits until the offseason to sign with another team.

Fletcher Cox will stay at the Eagles

In his latest report for NFL Network, Ian Rapoport reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are not planning on moving star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. Eastern Time trade deadline. According to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, Cox had been approached by several teams.

Cox has served the Eagles his entire professional career. With over a decade-long career, Bash is one of the league’s best interior defensive linemen, earning six Pro Bowl selections and four first-team All-Pro selections.

Despite his performance in the first eight games of the season, Cox only has one sack and four quarterback hits. With Javon Hargrave paired with him, he still provides one of the best interior defensive teams in the NFL. A deal was unlikely due to financial considerations and what the retooled Eagles would want in return for a player of Cox’s stature.

Due to the $34 million they ate by trading Carson Wentz in November, if they moved on from Cox, they would have been forced to swallow even more dead salary-cap space due to the quiet salary-cap space they already had.

The Eagles still have just one game to go to secure a wild-card spot, despite having a 3-5 record. Their head-to-head results determine the tiebreaker.

Philadelphia will face the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, New York Jets, and the Washington Redskins in the season’s remaining games. Together they have a 10-21 record.

The Eagles might not need to win all six of those games against the Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboy. However, It is still possible that they can make the playoffs with a 9-8 record.
