A number of state governments are going ahead with reopening schools in Nigeria this September even though federal authorities have advised for caution. The Nigeria Health minister says COVID-19 still has the power to take life and still very dangerous while the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned the Nigerian government not to reopen higher institutions now.

However, a number of state governments have announced the full reopening of schools to begin the 2020/2021 new academic calendar for both universities, colleges, secondary and primary schools.

LAGOS
Exit schools since August 4

Primary and secondary schools reopen September 21st

OSUN
Exit classes on August 4th

Primary and secondary schools – September 21 to October 30 2020 for the third term.

New session first term November 9th to January 22, 2021, with a short break in December 2021.

Second term February 1 to April 9th, 2021.

Third term April 26 to July 23, 2021

Tertiary institutions 21 September 2020.

OYO
Exit classes on August 4th.

The third term canceled by the government. Promotion assessment will be based on first and second term performance.

DELTA
Primary schools in Delta State will resume academic activities after the government asks the primary six pupils to resume school on Wednesday, 16 September 2020.

All primary school teachers in the state will resume duties on Monday, September 14, 2020, according to information by the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah.

Students will begin revision immediately they enter school.

JSS3 has resumed on 8 September 2020

SS3 has already resumed writing WAEC, SSCE.

Kogi state government has announced the reopening of schools at all levels on 14 September 2020, including Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions inside the state, according to Wemi Jones the state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology.

BENUE
Only exit classes have resumed school. The government hasn’t revealed plans and dates for the total reopening of schools.

NIGER
Exit classes started school since August

KWARA
Only exit classes since August 4th.

ABUJA – FCT
Exit classes except primary six resumed since August

But no date yet for the full resumption of school until the federal government gives go ahead.
