Polytechnic Staff Threatens Nationwide Strike From Jan 4

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has announced a 14-day warning strike, to begin nationwide on Jan. 4.

The National President of SSANIP, Mr. Adebanjo Ogunsipe, made the declaration in Abuja on Thursday while speaking to newsmen toward the finish of the 62nd standard gathering of the General Executive Council of the affiliation.

Ogunsipe said the choice to leave on the strike was taken toward the finish of the gathering on the grounds that the Federal Government had neglected to fulfill the needs of the union.

The demands of the union incorporate the execution of the NEEDS assessment report and the arrival of assets for the polytechnic area just as the arrival of a plan of administration for polytechnic workers.

Different demands are the installment of unpaid debts of the lowest pay permitted by law for the staff of polytechnics and the reconstitution of the governing councils of all government and state polytechnics, among others.

“We will return after the strike to evaluate if the lone route is to close down all polytechnics from that point.”

He said that it was essential to take note that despite a progression of negotiations with the government, they had demonstrated a casual disposition toward issues in the area.

The unionist focused on that SSANIP considered it significant to make mindfulness on the bunch of issues militating against the advancement of polytechnics and technical education in the nation.

Ogunsipe contended that issues in the education area could foil mechanical advancement in the close and inaccessible future if not tended to.

“The union wishes to make it completely obvious to the bureaucratic and state governments that proceeded with the inability to make a move on the entirety of the issues will leave us with no alternative than to make a radical move to see to the execution of these demands,” he said.
