Match Time: 9:00 pm
Football – England Premier League
Match Venue: Saint Mary’s Stadium
Ralph Hassenhuttl’s Southampton welcomes Aston Villa to St. Mary’s stadium for the last clash of the day, hoping to get one over the villans. With both sides level on points with Aston Villa having played one game less, it promises to be a feisty clash.
Aston Villa have been mightily impressive this season, so far. Though they are in 10th position, but the villans have somewhat exceeded expectations, after escaping relegation on the last matchday of last season.
Aston Villa, however have had one victory in their last five games in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and conceding 11 goals in that time.
Also, in these games, the Villains have conceded at least two goals, only keeping a clean sheet in the victory against Newcastle (2 – 0).
An Aston Villa victory seems to be difficult to envisage as Aston Villa are winless in their last eight Premier League matches against Southampton (D3 L5) since a 3-2 win in December 2013.
Southampton on the other hand, have won their last four Premier League matches against Aston Villa, their best top-flight winning run against the Villans since August 1989, when they also won four consecutively; they’ve never won five in a row against Aston Villa in the top tier.
But then, Southampton have lost their last two Premier League games, as many as they had in their previous 15 in the competition (W8 D5). They last lost three in a row in November 2019.
Also, Since Ralph Hasenhüttl’s first game in charge in December 2018, Southampton have dropped more points from winning positions than any other side in the Premier League (47).
Southampton striker Shane Long has a great record against Aston Villa, he has been directly involved in 12 goals in 16 Premier League appearances against Aston Villa (7 goals, 5 assists). In all competitions, Long has scored nine goals against Villa, more than he has against any other club in his professional career.
On the other hand, Aston Villa’s captain, Jack Grealish, has been involved in 14 Premier League goals in 18 games this season (6 goals, 8 assists), the same number he was involved in in 36 appearances last season (8 goals, 6 assists).
It is a match where ay side can actually win, the best bet is to either go any man can win or on goals, with both sides having never played a goalless draw in their last five meetings.
But a bold bet would be going for a win for Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side over Aston Villa.
CcnWorldTech Betting Prediction: Over 1.5 goals (or Home win)
