The level of insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria cannot be downplayed as banditry, terrorism and kidnapping have become a growing business in the various part of the north, as there is now at least a case of either kidnapping, bandit attack, or boko haram attack every day.
Recently, most of these attacks are now carried out on all levels of schools in northern states, and all of these schools are helpless in terms of protection against such attacks.
As a result of this, most states are now shutting down schools in their states. No fewer than 618 schools have remained closed in six northern states over the fear of attack and abduction of pupils and members of staff, according to a tally by THISDAY.

The six states where some schools have remained closed are Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Niger, and Yobe. With the closure of all secondary schools in Niger state, THISDAY gathered that about 496 schools were affected, and The Yobe State government also closed all boarding schools as part of proactive measures to safeguard pupils’ lives.
