First Smartphone with MediaTek Helio P22 Chipset Announced by Vivo, Costs $240

The first smartphone to use MediaTek’s new Helio P22 12nm processor is Y83 and it was made official by Vivo in China. Apart from the latest chipset, the device is also accompanied by an 8MP selfie camera and a big 3260mAh battery. It also add a bit premium to its design with it shimmering light refractive glossy back cover.

The phone is meant to cater for the low-end market and in this respect all other specs are entry-level. It features a 6.22-inch HD+ IPS display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a notch at the top. The built-in RAM is 4GB followed by a 64GB of storage, which is expandable of course.

The Y83 has a single camera at the back touting a 13MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, while the 8MP front camera has AI Beauty for selfie enhancements and supports face unlock out-of-the-box. There’s no fingerprint sensor onboard but you do get Android 8.1 Oreo as a compliment with FunTouch OS on top.

Update (31-05-2018)

Vivo has launched Y83 in India few days after it was introduced in China. Unlike the one released in China, the Indian model comes with a 32GB of internal storage and not 64GB, their only difference. The phone will be sold for Rs 14,990 ($225) at online and offline stores in the coming days.
