When it comes to mobile phone we can’t but mention Android because it has become a critical part in the phone ecosystem. Almost all phone manufacturers now use Android operating system in their mobile phones because it is open source unlike iOS owned Apple. It is not a perfect OS, but it is getting better as new update get released.
One of the critical aspect is the optimization part, which unfortunately Android is lacking. Manufacturers are not helping neither with their custom UI/UX. If the optimization is good and tons of customization options are available, no one will thought of rooting their Android device. But there are ways in which you can optimize your phone to be faster and smoother, that’s what we want to talk about today.

1. UI/UX
One of the essential things that causes drawback in speed is the UI. Most of the Android phones released these days were heavily themed, with many having custom UI placed on top of the OS for beautification and effects. If the theme, UI, or the overall UX is not properly optimised lagging will occur, which causes unresponsiveness in most cases while using the phone. This can be solved to an extent by installing a third-party launcher that is fast. In this case, we recommend Nova launcher.
2. Apps running in background
The number of apps installed and that are running in the background can also affect the speed and the overall smoothness, especially if the phone comes equipped with less than 3GB of RAM. Some apps are RAM-demanding, even when running in the background. Facebook, Instagram, and Google Play Services are good example of this. When the apps running in the background takes big chunk of RAM allocation and little is left for foreground apps, the phone will begin to stutter. To minimize this, you can disable the apps when not in use or install greenify. Although this has been better handled by latest Android versions via the new Doze feature.
3. Power saving mode
Power saving mode can also negatively affect the fastness and responsiveness of an Android phone if enabled. Manufacturers use different means to set up power saving mode on their mobile. In most cases, when enabled, limit are placed on background apps and the CPU to some extent to save power drawn from the battery. The processor speed is reduced to help save the battery. Some manufacturers go to the extent of disabling background location, UI animation, and other settings. This may affect the responsiveness of the phone and the speed. When running high intensive tasks make sure the power saving mode is disabled.
4. Bugged Apps
Not all apps are properly optimised to run effectively. Some contains bug that may slow down the speed of the phone when running or cause multiple crash and force close. It may be a pain in the ass if it is a system app that is bugged because you have no way of uninstalling it. The only solution is to update the app hoping that the developer has solve the issue, or disable it. If you have an app acting strangely on your Android, it may be the cause of slowness, we suggest you uninstall it.

Software optimization is very important in getting the most out of our Android devices. It is very essential that the apps, UI, and the OS are properly optimised to respond effectively when operating the phone. It’s not always about the hardware, but about the implementation of the overall system.
