It has once been the tradition of the Hong Kong based company, Infinix, to host the launch event of its latest device somewhere in Africa (mostly Kenya or Nigeria) before setting it out to other Asia, Middle-East regions, but that’s not the case this year. The firm at a special event it hosted in Dubai on Tuesday has announced its much anticipated smartphone, Zero 5, for India market.

Unlike its predecessors and other series before it, the Zero 5 won’t be making it to Africa market first, but will initially be available in India starting from November 22nd exclusively on the e-commerce website FlipKart. The Zero 5 is clad in a sleek metal unibody that is 7.95mm thick, weighing 197 grams.

It has a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protected front screen that touts a 5.98-inch Full HD (1920×1080) resolution with 500 nits brightness. Under the hood is an octa-core MediaTek Helio P25 chipset running at a speed of 2.6GHz, clubbed with a sufficient 6GB of RAM and Mali-T880 GPU. We are still waiting for a day when Infinix will use Qualcomm chips for its flagships.

There are two offerings in the storage sector that splits the phone into two variants; the first which is the standard model comes with a 64GB of internal storage, while there is a higher version that comes with a 128GB of internal storage. The higher version is named by the company as Zero 5 Pro. Besides the storage difference, both versions are the same. It is worth mentioning that there is a dedicated MicroSD slot to further expand the storage up to 128GB.

At the rear is a dual horizontally-placed camera, the first having a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/2.0 aperture and Sony IMX386 sensor, while the second is a telephoto lens with 13MP sensor, featuring f/2.6 aperture, 2x optical zoom and Samsung S5K3M3 sensor. A twin-LED flash accompanied these cameras. The Infinix Zero 5 comes equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera as well, also accompanied with a LED flash.

The device runs Android 7.0 Nougat OS with the company proprietary XOS 3.0 on top for a better user experience. It has a fingerprint sensor on the back for biometric authentication while it offers Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz + 5GHz), 4G VoLTE, 3G, 2G, GPS, FM radio, and USB Type-C as connectivity options. It is backed by a 4350mAh non-removable battery with fast charging.

The Zero 5 with 64GB storage comes in Bordeaux Red and Champagne Gold colors and is priced at Rs 17,999 (US$270), while the Zero 5 Pro with 128GB storage comes in Sandstone Black color and is priced at Rs 19,999 (US$300).
