The Technical Aid Corps Volunteer Programme

Experienced Nigerian professionals and experts are recruited to serve under the TAC Scheme as “Volunteers” for a period of two years.

Hence, the professionals must be holders of university degrees or their equivalent with a minimum of three years post qualification experience. Volunteers are recruited strictly on the basis of specific requests from the ACP Countries.

The Scheme is however intended for Nigerian professionals willing to serve abroad alone without their families.

The Directorate of Technical Aid Corps, Ministry of Foreign Affairs is by this notice, inviting qualified Nigerians, for recruitment as Volunteers into the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Scheme.

Prospective volunteers would be required to render lecturing, research and medical services in various Institutes under the African Union Commission – Pan African University, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) – West African Health Organization, the Republic of Burundi, Republic of Liberia and the Republic of Uganda.

  • Individuals who have served before under the TAC scheme are not eligible and therefore need not apply
  • Note that this is a tac scheme and volunteers can be posted to any African, Caribbean or Pacific Country where their expertise is required
  • Submission of the application is free.

Responsibilities of the Federal Government to the Volunteers

  • The Nigerian government is responsible for the following:
  • – Payment of onshore and offshore allowances to the Volunteers.
  • – Payment of resettlement allowance.
  • – Provision of return passages to Volunteers. Volunteers are however not entitled to baggage allowance.
  • – Limited fringe benefits such as leave grants.
  • – In the event of the death of a nuclear family member such as Parents, Spouse or of-spring of a Volunteer, the Government shall be responsible for the passage of the Volunteer from his or her post to Nigeria and back, strictly subject to the prior approval of the Directorate. In line with the practice of the Directorate, it shall as of necessity be represented as the funeral of the deceased.

Responsibility of Recipient Country to Volunteers

    • – Provision of reasonably furnished accommodation.
    • – Payment of utilities such as water, electricity and gas.
    • – Provision of free medical services.
  • – Provision of transportation where applicable.
  • – The recipient country shall freely deploy each volunteer to any part of the country at his own expense. It is pertinent to note that the internal deployment of volunteers is the sole responsibility of host State.
  • – The recipient country shall grant the volunteer exemption for payment of local income tax. It shall accord to the volunteers “First arrived privileges” which grants exemption from all taxes imposed by raising of importance of personal effect used of Volunteer with (12) twelve months of their arrival or as it is applicable in a particular country. personal effects may be defined as household goods and articles such as a motor vehicle, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and other electronic gadgets that must accompany the volunteers or be imported within twelve (12) months of arrival in their respective recipient countries.
    – Local sales of such items shall, however, be made only with the former consent of the appropriate host authority and shall be liable to import duties, if sold to a person not entitled to similar privilege.

Note: Candidates who had previously undergone orientation exercise and who possess the above qualifications are still eligible and therefore need not apply.

Requirements for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Recruitment

  • Possession of B.Sc, HNDNCE, OND in relation to the applied position from a recognized institution.
  • Any added certificate either postgraduate or professional certification will be of advantage.
  • NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.
  • Applicants must not be above 35 years old.
  • West African School Certificate (WAEC) or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) with Credits in not less than three (3) subjects including English and at least passes in two (2) other subjects; or
  • Also, Candidates must have National Examination Council (NECO)/General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level with passes in four (4) subjects obtained at one sitting or five (5) subjects obtained at two sittings including the English Language.)
  • National Diploma (ND) obtained from a recognized institution. National Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognized institution; or General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) in two (2) subjects obtained at one sitting or three (3) subjects obtained at two sittings.
  • Must be computer literate.
