Motorola Moto Z with 5.5″ Quad-HD display, Snapdragon 820 Announced

The Lenovo-owned company, Motorola, at a special event organized in San Franscisco earlier today launched a new flagship device to its Moto series smartphones named Moto Z. The Z series are officially here to take on the position of X series that were first introduced in July. The phone features a 5.5-inch Quad-HD (2560×1440) AMOLED display with 535ppi pixel density, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, slammed with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU.

Wrapped in a very slim all-metal body that measure just 5.19mm at its thickest point, the Moto Z comes in two storage variants, 32GB and 64GB, both of which are further expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD card. Though it is not waterproof certify, the phone body can repel water and can survive against splashes and rain. A fingerprint sensor is placed at the front below the display for smart security and authentication.

In photography, the device sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization, Laser Auto Focus and twin-tone LED flash, while it bears a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens camera with f/2.2 aperture at the front. Connectivity options included are 4G LTE (Cat 9), Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11 ac (dual band + MIMO), 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C. It is backed by a 2600mAh battery with Turbo Charging.

At the event, Lenovo also announced modular accessories for Moto Z which can be attached to special “12 magical pins” located the back. The accessories includes Insta-Share that can project live images up to 70-inch on a wall, Power Pack that can further extended the phone battery life up to 22 hours, and JBL SoundBoost for enhanced audio experience.

The Motorola Moto Z will launch as Moto Z Droid on network carrier AT&T in United States in September when it started rolling out globally. No details regarding pricing.
