The development is coming after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) instructed telecoms companies from 30 December 2020 to block SIM cards without NIN.
Checks and results also showed that N20 is the service cost for checking your NIN via phone.
What about those that haven’t registered?
If you still have to register for your National Identity Card, you can follow the following steps below:
STEP 1: To obtain the NIMC pre-enrolment application online, visit the NIMC portal here Enter your appropriate information as required in the correct fields, Download and print your pre-enrolment slip.
You are required to do the following after having completed the above: consult the closest NIMC registration center
with original documents supporting some of the info you supplied while filling out the pre-enrolment online application.
You will be directed to an officer at the registration center to check the authenticity of the information contained in your application.
After confirming your information, the registration officer will then take further steps, including biometric capture of your face and fingerprints, after which a payment ID slip will be issued as proof.
STEP 2: The next step is to visit the registration center for your NIN slip acquisition.
It is expected that the release of the slip will be obtainable within two to three working days of the completion of your biometric capture.
However, because of some factors which include time to verify your info by the NIMC to obtain your NIN slip, this could be prolonged, it is vital to take along the transaction ID slip given to you during enrollment.
How do you know if it is fully prepared for your permanent national identity card?
You are also expected to keep track of when your permanent national ID card is ready after acquiring your NIN slip, which is only a temporary requirement.
By using the following steps, this can be accomplished:
Check the website of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) After that, scroll down the home page and click on the ‘e-ID Card Status Portal’ to confirm if your card is ready and if the activation center is readily accessible.
Simply enter your first name, last name and your NIMC tracking ID and click on the ‘check now’ icon to do this.
