Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been named by business magazine Forbes as the African of the Year, making her the first woman to secure the award.
She was regarded with the award in an announcement made by Forbes Africa on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

According to the organizers, the ABN Group, the award is given to change-makers who have exhibited genuine administration greatness, have an unmistakable presence on the world stage, and whose impact has assumed a critical function in Africa’s turn of events.
“Her tireless endeavors to make immunizations accessible to helpless nations and empower equivalent admittance to the COVID-19 antibody makes her an impressive good example,” organizers reported on Tuesday.
The award has recently been won by Rwandan president, Paul Kagame, and leader of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina.
Okonjo-Iweala took to her Twitter account late on Tuesday to communicate her fervor about the award.
She posted, “This award is for individual Africans enduring the wellbeing and monetary effect of COVID-19. The energy and strength of Africans rouse me!”
Okonjo-Iweala, a former World Bank overseeing director, sits on the Boards of Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, and is Board Chairperson of Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
She is likewise set to be named as the primary female and first African director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
