Pantech has once been one of the leading smartphone maker in its hometown South Korea, and its influence was well recognized in the United States, thanks to AT&T their exclusive partner back then. But things took a turn some months back and the company suddenly found itself crawling on its knees, until it gets stuck. After 20 months of hibernation, Pantech has finally summon the strength to wake, get back on its feet, and pursue Android fast moving train by announcing a new budget smartphone, Sky IM-100.
Clad in a sleek metal body that measure 7.8mm at its thickest point, the Pantech Sky IM-100 boasts a 5.2-inch full-HD (1920×1080) display, touting a pixel density of 424ppi. Unlike volume-rocker buttons that has been the usual, this comes with a golden jog-wheel control that can be tuned to lower or increase the volume as well as navigate around in certain UI, such as Gallery and Videos. However, it is powered by a slighly powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, an average-performing processor when it comes to certain tasks but battery friendly. Adreno 505 takes care of graphics, and 2GB of RAM is planted inside to handle multitasking.

There is a 32GB of built-in storage onboard, but it is yet unclear if external MicroSD expansion slot is included. Android version it runs is not mentioned either, but we expect something updated. In photography, the phone sports a 13-megapixel camera at the rear with LED flash, and a secondary 5-megapixel camera at the front. Connectivity options included are 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), 3G, GPS/A-GPS, and NFC. It is backed by a 3000mAh battery.
Along with Sky IM-100, the company also launched Stone SL-100, an accessory that can be use to charge the smartphone wireless with Qi standard supported, and can also synchronize and play music when paired via Bluetooth. The portable pocket-size device is also NFC-ready.
The Sky IM-100 will be available in Korea later this month at a price of KRW 440,000 ($383 USD). No details regarding global availability.
