Police Re-Arrest 5 Inmates Who Escaped From Edo Prison In Kaduna State

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have re-arrested five of the inmates that escaped from a correctional center in Edo State a month ago.

Some hoodlums attacked two prisons in Edo State on October 19, 2020, and freed almost 2,000 inmates that the National Correctional Service (NCS) said were generally convicted lawbreakers.

While parading 35 suspects in Abuja on Monday, November 30, 2020, Force spokesperson, DCP Frank Mba, said five of the break inmates were found perpetrating crimes.

The criminals were trapped in Kaduna State by officers of the Intelligence Response Team for burglary, vehicle robbery, and unlawful ownership of firearms.

The head of the group, Onaruje Benjamin, as indicated by Mba, stole a vehicle 30 minutes after his October escape before he collaborated with the rest of the different inmates. He was waiting for capital punishment at the time of his escape after he was sentenced for connivance and furnished theft.

Different people from the gang that additionally escaped in October and have been re-arrested are Adebayo Opeyemi, Peter Felix Osas, Frank Odion Oloye, and Alhaji Hudu Musa.

The gang hijacked vehicles from drivers and sold the taken vehicles in the neighboring Niger Republic, according to Mba.

“Five vehicles prior grabbed from their owners at gunpoint in different pieces of the nation were recovered from the posse,” he said.

It’s indistinct the number of the almost 2,000 inmates that escaped longer than a month prior have surrendered or been re-arrested.

Mba said the suspects will be arraigned in court after investigations have been completed.
