Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris

Samsung earlier today made a new addition to its Galaxy Tab series in India through “made in India” initiative called Galaxy Tab Iris. As its name suggest, the tablet sports an Iris recognition technology for biometric identification and authentication. As reported (via), the device is targeted at government benefit programs, enterprises, banks, education and financial institutions, and is Aadhaar-compliant and STQC-certified.

Measuring 193.4 x 116.4 x 9.7mm, the Galaxy Tab Iris features a 7-inch capacitive touch display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor (unspecified) coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. There is an 8GB of storage inside, which is further expandable up to 200GB via MicroSD card. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box and supports voice-calling via a dedicated SIM slot. 3G is also onboard for fast internet browsing.

Sitting at the rear is a 5-megapixel autofocus camera without LED flash, while it lacks a front camera. Other connectivity options included besides 3G are Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi and USB with OTG. It is backed by a 3600mAh battery.

The Galaxy Tab Iris is priced at Rs 13,499 ($202 USD). It comes in black colour option only.
