Sharp has launched the third iteration of its Android One series smartphone in Japan dubbed S3. The phone, which was announced earlier today is the company’s third smartphone that will runs Google’s Android One operating system, the first being the AQUOS 507H and the second the X1, both launched exclusively in Japan. This runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. Sharp promised Android updates for two consecutive years and security updates for three years.

In terms of specifications, the Sharp S3 features a 5-inch IGZO display with Full HD (1920×1080) resolution and pixel density of 440PPI. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Mobile Platform with a clock speed of 1.5GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU. A 32GB storage is placed inside with an option to expand it up to 256GB via MicroSD card.

The phone lacks fingerprint sensor unlike most other Sharp smartphones, but it is water and dust resistant certified with IPX5/IPX8/IP6X ratings. Moving on, the S3 sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera. Connectivity options included are 4G VoLTE, 3G, 2G, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi, GPS, and USB Type-C. It is turned on by a 2700mAh battery.

The phone will be available in Blue, Black, White, and Pink colors for JPY 32,400 (US$298) without contract in Japan.
