The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it is considering a new policy that will make it mandatory for single ladies to get a drug test before they get married.
NDLEA Chairman, Mohammed Mustapha Abdalla, said this in Maiduguri, Borno state capital. While burning some illegal substances, Abdalla said during the usual premarital tests couples do before getting married, a compulsory drug test should be done. This according to him is because young girls of today get very addicted to illegal drugs. He also said that young male youths are the main part of the country’s population that that traffic illegal drugs and now, teenage girls and older married women have joined in the trend.

Abdalla further stated that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA will be partnering with mostly religious leaders to make sure drug test becomes compulsory as a requirement for marriage in churches and mosques, same way HIV/AIDS test and genotype test is compulsory.
He said that the issue of drugs is not just a government responsibility but a shared responsibility for every single person and society.
The NDLEA boss, Abdalla concluded by saying that, “Government at all levels, community and religious leaders, parents, social workers, the media, youth organizations, and policymakers should see it as a point of duty to come together and identify with our office efforts of combating drug abuse.”
