Softbank Brings Early ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie’ to Fans in Japan

Since Walt Disney acquired Lucasfilm in late 2012, the original maker of the seven episodes of the legendary Star Wars movie, Disney has only released one episode which was “The Force Awaken” in 2015. Now, there is another on the way scheduled for December 16 release dubbed “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. The Japanese firm Softbank, wants to bring this movie far earlier to Star Wars fans in Japan before it arrives to theaters and the only way to do this is by releasing a smartphone completely customize with Star Wars characters.

We like to think of Softbank as the frontier because the phone is made by Sharp. The smartphone includes Star Wars themes, wallpapers, ringtones, skins for pre-installed apps, Star Wars alarm clock and emojis, Star Wars live wallpaper, and a dedicated Star Wars movie player that lets you watch The Force Awaken with subtitle included. The outer layer (body) of the smartphone is also themed to match the movie. Available in two color options, White and Black, with the colors representing the Light Side and the Dark Side respectively.

Softbank-Star-Wars-Phone-back

The Softbank Star Wars phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and comes with high-end specifications. It features a 5.3-inch IGZO display with full-HD (1920×1080 pixel) resolution. The device is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, alongside with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. There is a 32GB of built-in storage onboard that can be expanded up to 256GB via MicroSD card.

Sitting at the back is a 22.6-megapixel camera with LED flash, while a 5-megapixel camera is equipped at the front. The Star Wars phone by Softbank is also waterproof and dustproof certified with IPX5/IPX8/IP5X ratings. Connectivity options included are Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), 4G LTE, and GPS/A-GPS. It is backed by a 3000mAh battery.

The phone is available for pre-orders in Japan and will start shipping from December 2nd.
