There was an unsavoury incident in the 35th minute when Neymar told the Marseille bench and the referee that Alvaro Gonzalez has racially abused him.
The match was bad tempered from the beginning and Neymar was at the centre of all the problems. The Brazilian clashed with Payet minutes before that and this time he had an argument with the Spanish central defender.
It occured when Alvaro was marking the Brazilian while the ball was elsewhere. Neymar went down claiming he had been hit and things kicked off.
Neymar went to the sideline to complain to the referees and the Marseille bench. A pitchside microphone picked up his comment of “racism no” and he said Alvaro was the man responsible for the comment.
The PSG footballer also confronted a member of the Marseille coaching staff. Things got out of hand and Di Maria spat in Alvaro’s direction. It was a very bad first half from a footballing point of view.
