Vivo’s new IQOO sub-brand had been in the news for a while, and it had been rumored severally in the past few weeks, but no one knows it will be a gaming smartphone. The company on Friday officially pulled the veil off its first flagship phone for the year 2019, the IQOO.
Vivo said it is a gaming phone – in this regard, it is powered by Qualcomm most powerful mobile processor, Snapdragon 855. RAM configuration go as high as 12GB, coupled with up to 256GB of storage. There is no MicroSD expansion slot onboard, however.

What Vivo meant by “gaming” when introducing the phone manifested in various optimizations put in place to enhance gameplay, these includes “Multi-Turbo”, which is the central station of all monitoring and advance tuning. Under the Multi-Turbo we have Cooling Turbo, Net Turbo, AI Turbo, Center Turbo, and Game Turbo. Moreover, the IQOO uses vapor chamber to make sure that heat generated during heavy gameplay are quickly dissipated.
Special lighting is one of the iconic feature of any gaming device, whether it be a laptop, desktop or even a smartphone (Black Shark, Razer and the rest comes to mind) – so it’s not surprising to see the Vivo IQOO back laid with an RGB LED strip that blink different colors depending on ongoing activities.
The gaming experience of the phone is further improved by two pressure-sensitive buttons that complement the in-game software buttons. 4D Gaming, which is a real-time scene recognition that triggers subtle haptic that go in rhythm with the gameplay, let users “feel” the action when kicking the bad guys.
Technically, the IQOO features a 6.41-inch Full HD+ (2340×1080) Super AMOLED display with a 91.7% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to its Waterdrop notch. As mentioned earlier, the phone is powered by a Snapdragon 855 7nm octa-core chipset, coupled with Adreno 640 GPU. RAM and storage options provided are 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB.
In optics, it sports triple rear camera in 12MP(f/1.8, Sony IMX363) + 13MP(f/2.4, 120° wide angle) + 2MP (f/2.4, depth sensor) configuration, while it housed a 13MP front camera. Biometric security is handled by an in-display fingerprint sensor in addition to the face unlock offered by the front camera.
The Vivo IQOO runs Android 9.0 Pie and offers dual SIM supports with Dual 4G VoLTE standby. Apart from Dual 4G VoLTE, other connectivity present are Bluetooth 5, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), GPS + GLONASS, USB Type-C, and NFC, but it lacked a 3.5mm audio jack (USB-C to 3.5mm converter is included in-the-box though).
It is fuelled by a 4000mAh battery. The basic model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage supports 22.5W fast charging, while the other models support 44W fast charging.
