The way fingerprint protection system storm mobile phone industries in 2015, and now in 2016 is quite amazing. The technology which use to be on the high side of high-end mobile devices is now flooding the lower global market, becoming easily available for the less privilege. Security may have tightened with the arrival of fingerprint sensor on mobile, but a French startup think we should be able to use this sensor for other good things besides security.
Wiko, a company partially known in Europe and some parts of Africa including Nigeria at MWC event that ended this week launched two budget smartphones, U Feel and U Lite, both of which sports fingerprint sensors at the front below the display. Like other fingerprint-enabled smartphones, the sensor can be use to lock and unlock the device without entering passcode. However, Wiko added new functionality to the fingerprint system that makes it smarter and more attractive.

Firstly, the adaptive fingerprint recognition technology included enables users to add up to five different fingerprints and customize each finger to trigger a certain app when apply. For instance, you can set the index finger to trigger camera app and the middle finger to launch music player whenever you tap on the sensor with each respective finger. Secondly, the fingerprint sensor can use as software keys for navigation. Instead of using touch-sensitive keys (Back, Home and Minimize) at the bottom of the display, users can decide to hide/disable these keys and use the fingerprint sensor instead for navigating around the phone.
And thirdly, the sensor can be use to lock pre-installed apps as well as user installed apps. This prevent other people from accessing the apps without your permission. The fingerprint security system is put into further use with Encrypt Box, a personal app where users can store their documents, musics, videos and pictures that they do not want other people to see or gain access to. Only the user fingerprint can access the Encrypt Box.
The Wiko UFeel and ULite aren’t that impressive in specs but are decent. Both features a 5-inch IPS display with HD (1280×720 pixels) resolution and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The UFeel possess a 3GB of RAM and ULite 2GB of RAM, both powered by a quad-core processor (not specified) clubbed with 16GB of built-in storage. The storage is expandable up to 64GB via MicroSD card.
In photography, the U Feel and U Lite sports 13-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear cameras respectively, and houses 5-megapixel camera at the front. Connectivity options included are 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wifi, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, and Micro-USB. The UFeel is backed by a 2,900mAh battery. Battery capacity of ULite is not revealed.
The Wiko U Feel is priced at EUR 199.99 ($218 USD) and U Lite at EUR 169.99 ($185 USD). Both will be available sometime in April.
