Samsung Launches Its “First” Gaming Laptop, Notebook Odyssey at CES2017

Armand Assante have bear the name Odysseus for many years, but at CES, hand is about to change hand with Samsung new “first” gaming laptop, the Notebook Odyssey. This the first time Samsung will be head-diving into gaming territory, the path in which Asus has gallantly tread upon for years. The device comes in two variants, each packing slightly different specifications.

The first comes with a 17.3-inch full-HD (1920×1080) anti-glare display with 300nits brightness and wide-viewing angle, and the second a 15.6-inch display also boasting full-HD resolution and anti-glare, but with 280 nits brightness. Both models are powered by quad-core Intel Core i7 Kaby Lake processors, and have advance cooling system which Samsung proudly named “HexaFlow Vent”, which minimizes heat generated during heavy gameplay. The HexaFlow Vent leads to the RAM and storage slots when opened.

The Notebook Odyssey 17.3-inch model supports up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 512GB PCle SSD + 1TB HDD storage, with an additional storage slot available. It also offers Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C port, 3x USB 3.0 ports, LAN port, HDMI port, 3.5mm audio and mic combo port, and 3-in-1 card reader as connectivity ports.

On the other hand, the Notebook Odyssey 15.6-inch model is configured with up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 256GB PCle SSD + 1TB HDD storage. An Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GDDR5 GPU handles all the graphics on this device. On the connectivity front, it supports USB 3.0 port, HDMI port, LAN port, 3.5mm audio + mic combo port, and 3-in-1 card reader but lacks USB Type-C port.

Samsung is pre-loading Xbox app and Xbox Anywhere on its new gaming machine for avid Xbox players to directly stream Xbox games on the device. No words on pricing and availability yet.
