BlackBerry unexpectedly today has officially announced a new budget smartphone, to be precise, the company’s second device to runs Android operating system, DTEK50. The device is claimed by the Canadian firm as the world’s most secured smartphone. All files, data and user informations are encrypted, and the phone is FIPS 140-2 Compliant. It also comes pre-installed with DTEK BlackBerry app that allow users to monitor the health and well-being of the operating system as well as installed applications.

In addition, the DTEK50 has malware protection. To cap it all in security segment, BlackBerry provides users with visibility and control over which apps gain access to personal information and device features such as Mic, Camera and GPS. The DTEK50 is also touted as thinnest smartphone to be ever released by BlackBerry, measuring just 7.4mm at its thickest point, which is quite thinner when compare with Priv, BlackBerry first Android smartphone.

In terms of specifications, the DTEK50 features a 5.2-inch capacitive touch display with full-HD (1920×1080) resolution, protected by scratch resistant glass. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. It includes a 16GB of built-in storage which is further expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD card.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow governs all software activities, and there is single SIM slot onboard with support of 4G LTE. Sitting at the rear is a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and LED flash, while an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens selfie camera is equipped at the front. Other connectivity options included apart from 4G LTE are Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11ac (dual-band), 3G HSPA+, 2G, GPS, and NFC. It is backed by a 2160mAh battery with fast charging.

The BlackBerry DTEK50 is available for pre-orders in Canada at CA$429, United Kingdom at £275, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Netherlands at €339, and United States at $299.99 via BlackBerry e-Store. Free mobile power pack is included as a promotional offer till 8th of August.
