Panasonic Launches Toughpad FZ-F1, Toughpad FZ-N1 Rugged Smartphones

Panasonic on Monday added two new rugged smartphones to its Toughpad line-up at MWC event in Barcelona namely Toughpad FZ-F1 and Toughpad FZ-N1. Both device sports identical specifications, but are differentiate by operating system they run. The first which is Toughpad FZ-F1 runs Windows 10 while the later runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.

Panasonic Toughpad series are known for their ruggedness and the ability to survive in an extreme environment, a place where the “ordinary” don’t normally survive, and these two inherits the trait. First of all, they are both military grade certify with MIL-STD-810G against extreme dust, vibration, altitude, pressure, humility and high/low temperature. In addition, the smartphones are IP65 and IP67 rated, meaning, they can survive up to 30 minutes in 3.3 feet deep of water. Both can also withstand a fall from 6 feet high.

The Toughpad FZ-F1 and FZ-N1 features a 4.7-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display that can be operate with glove hand, and are clearly viewable in direct sunlight, supporting 10-point multitouch. An optional stylus pen is also available. These are powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) processor clocked at 2.3GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 GPU.

A 16GB of built-in storage is included with external storage support via MicroSD card (up to 64GB). Notably, both smartphones offers dual SIM functionality. Sitting at the rear is an 8-megapixel camera accompanied with a LED flash, while a 5-megapixel camera is equipped at the front. Connectivity options onboard includes 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wifi 802.11ac, 3G HSPA+, GPRS/EDGE, CDMA 1x, EVDO Rev.A, NFC, and GPS. An angle-placed barcode reader featured on the side lets users scan item, with activate buttons placed at both sides for easy access. A 3,200mAh battery fuelled the device. Panasonic is also offering an optional 6,200mAh battery for extended battery life.

The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-F1 and FZ-N1 will be available in two variants, Wi-Fi only and Data. The Wifi model of FZ-F1 will start shipping from March at an estimated price of $1,499 USD while the Data model will go sale around summer. The Toughpad FZ-N1 will be available at an estimated price of $1,599 USD in March for Wifi-only and the Data model during fall.
