HP today announced a new high-end Chromebook laptop dubbed Chromebook X2 for the consumer market. The device which comes in a 2-in-1 form factor is claimed by the firm as the world’s first detachable Chromebook laptop. The screen size is 12.3-inch while the resolution is set at 2400 pixel in width and 1600 pixel in height. Furthermore, the display uses IPS WLED panel for backlighting and is touch-responsive. There is a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top for protection as well.
The display is held firm to the keyboard magnetically through the magnetic hinge and is easily detachable without much stress. Moreover, while attached to the keyboard the display can be rotated up to 360-degree, this provides flexibility of use in any environment; either at work for productivity or at home for play. The bundled HP Active Pen let users draw, sketch and write on the display. The keyboard keys are chiclet-styled and there is a large touchpad at the bottom for mouse control.

Moving on, the Chromebook X2 is powered by an Intel Core m3-7Y30 processor clocked at 2.6GHz, paired with Intel HD Graphics 615 integrated GPU and 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM, but there is a choice of 8GB RAM for those who want more. The embedded 32GB eMMC storage is user expandable up to 256GB via MicroSD card. Buyers will also get 100GB free of Google Cloud storage for two consecutive years.
Other features onboard includes dual stereo speakers tuned by B&O Play, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and mics. In connectivity, the laptop supports WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), Bluetooth 4.2, 2x USB Type-C ports, and 3.5mm audio jack. Google Play Store comes pre-installed and there is a 48Wh 4-cell Li-ion battery behind for power. According to HP, the battery can render 10 hours of use in a single charge.
The Chromebook X2 will go on sale in the U.S on Best Buy and HP.com from June 10. The basic model costs $599.
