LG has announced X Venture, the company’s latest mid-end “rugged” smartphone in the “X” line-up and the second smartphone in “X series” in 2017. The phone is waterproof and dustproof certified with IP68 rating and can survive in up to 1.5 meters deep of water for up 30 minutes.
According to LG, the X venture passed 14 different MIL-STD 810G tests designed for the U.S. military. Besides its ability to survive in water, the device can also withstand extreme temperatures and shock. It has three physical buttons at the front below the display that triggers back, home, and menu, while the volume rocker and power buttons are located at the side.

The X Venture is pre-loaded with “Outdoor Essentials”, a multi-purpose active lifestyle applications that provides six useful tools for day-to-day activities, these consists of activity counter (steps/calories/distance), exercise tracker, weather reporter, barometer, flashlight, and compass.
A dedicated button dubbed “QuickButton” is placed at the side that when short-pressed will trigger the Outdoor Essentials app. Long-pressing the QuickButton will launch Settings while double-pressing will activate “Glove Mode”, enabling users to operate the phone touchscreen with wet or glove hands.
Technically, the LG X Venture features a 5.2-inch In-Cell touch display with full-HD (1920×1080) resolution, flaunting a pixel density of 423ppi. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, slammed with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU. It includes a 32GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD card.
Android 7.0 Nougat handles all softwares activities and communications and there is a fingerprint sensor beneath the home button for smart unlocking. In photography, the X Venture is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, while there a 5-megapixel selfie camera with 120-degree wide-angle lens sits at the front.
Connectivity options included are 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, 3G, GPS, FM radio, and NFC. It measures 154.0 x 75.8 x 9.29mm, weighs 166.5 grams, and is backed by a 4,100mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0. The battery is claimed to last up to 24 hours in mixed use.
Painted in Brown and Black colors, the smartphone will be available in North America starting today and from there will roll out to Latin America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia in coming weeks. No details on pricing.
