Casio GZE-1 EYE Compact Rugged Action Camera Announced

The Japanese technology firm Casio, today announced a new action camera under its newly-launched G’Z EYE camera portfolio called GZE-1 EYE. The rugged palm-size camera is built for capturing fast-paced extreme sports such as skating, snowboarding, BMX e.t.c. in where natural conditions might be too low or high.

Its ruggedness comes into play in its ability to survive in harsh conditions and withstand nature deadly ties, making the device extremely useful in capturing all the fun in abnormal places. According to Casio, the GZE-1 EYE can operate in temperature as low as -10ºC; fully funtion when immersed in water as deep as 50 meters; bounce off the floor fully working when drop from a height of up to 4 meters; and can shook the dust off with its unique IP6X certified dust-proof body.

The Casio GZE-1 EYE features a single 6.9MP camera lens with f/2.8 aperture and 1/2.3 CMOS sensor that can capture 6MP still image and record 1080p video at 30fps. It can also record video in 480p resolution at 30fps. Photos are saved in JPEG format and videos in H.264 encoded MOV format.

The camera is baked with numerous features such as Time Lapse, Face Detection, High Speed Continuous Shooting, Movie Anti Shake, Wind Noise Cut, Makeup e.t.c.

The device comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity for easy sharing and uploading, and it can be paired with a smartphone via an accompanied app for direct download of captured pictures and videos. The app also let users remotely control the camera. There is an external MicroSD card slot to expand its limited storage up to 128GB and a Micro-USB port for charging and transferring data.

The GZE-1 EYE will cost 46,000 yen (US$413) when it launch in Japan. No details on its availability yet.
