How to Clear Your Origin Cache

Origin is EA’s response to Steam, yet any PC player will tell you it’s nothing compared to Steam. Odd problems are common with Origin, particularly if you’re attempting to play older games on a contemporary operating system. The good news is that many of these issues may be resolved quickly by clearing your Origin cache.

Clearing the cache is a simple procedure that anybody can do, and it will remove any damaged or glitched data that may cause problems. Start troubleshooting by emptying your cache if Origin isn’t launching your games (or just won’t react when you attempt to play anything).

  • Select the three dashes in the top-left corner of the screen in the EA Desktop app.
  • Select Help > App Recovery from the drop-down menu.
  • Clear Cache is the option.

This will restart the program and clean your cache, which will resolve a significant number of minor problems and bugs. Remember that EA Desktop is currently in open beta, so there may be software conflicts and problems that haven’t been fully resolved.

You can also accomplish this by going to Start > EA > App Recovery from the Start Menu. It will accomplish the same job without requiring you to fully launch the program.

How to Clear Your Cache by Going Back to the Origin

If you’re like the majority of people, you’re still using the old Origin app, deleting the cache is a little more difficult (but still easily doable.)

  • Close Origin and make sure no other processes are running by going to Task Manager and terminating any related processes you see.
  • In the Windows search box, type Windows + R or search for Run.
  • Select OK after entering percent ProgramData percent /Origin.
  • Delete everything except LocalContent from the folder that emerges.
  • Alternatively, press Windows + R or search for Run once more.
  • Select OK after entering percent AppData percent.
  • This will open the Roaming subdirectory. Select the Origin folder and remove it.
  • Take a look at the file folder’s navigation bar. Select AppData, followed by Local.
  • Within Local, select and remove the Origin folder.
  • Restart your computer.

This procedure clears cached configuration data and aids in the elimination of bugs that may cause your games to fail to start or Origin to malfunction.

How to Clear Your Mac’s Origin Cache

Clearing the cache gets much more difficult if you’re mainly a Mac user. It’s not tough, but it’s time-consuming.

  • Launch Finder.
  • Go to Folder by selecting Go > Go to Folder.
  • Select Go after typing /Library/.
  • Application Support should be selected.
  • Choose a starting point.
  • Select DownloadCache and remove it.
  • Empty your garbage can.

To completely remove the Origin cache, you must dump the trash at the conclusion of the procedure. After that, restart your Mac and open Origin again.

Steps to Troubleshoot Additional Issues

There are a couple more actions you may do if deleting your cache doesn’t fix the issue.

Origin In-Game is disabled.

Although Origin has an in-game overlay that enables you to access your friend’s list, it has been known to create issues with certain titles. Disable this option if you’re having difficulty starting a game.

  • My Games Library > Open Origin.

To deactivate Origin In-Game, right-click the game and choose Game Properties, then uncheck the box.
